Privacy Policy
Effective July 15, 2026
Neighbr ("we," "us") is a neighborhood marketplace app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the product needs to work, we don't sell your personal information, and you can delete your account, and the personal data with it, from inside the app.
Information we collect
- Account information. You sign in with Apple, which shares your name and email address (or Apple's private relay email if you choose to hide yours). During setup you add a display name and ZIP code, and optionally a profile photo.
- Location. Neighbr is location-based. With your permission we use your device's location to show nearby listings, posts, and events, and we store an approximate location on content you create so neighbors can find it. If you use the Neighbors map, your current location is shared while the map is open. See "The Neighbors map" below.
- Content you create. Listings, posts, events, comments, reviews, photos, and messages.
- Transaction records. When you buy, sell, or book, we keep records of the transaction (what, when, amounts, and the parties). Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Device information. A push-notification token (if you enable notifications) and basic technical information needed to run the service.
The Neighbors map
The Neighbors map shows neighbors who are currently using the map near you. It is designed to be privacy-first:
- Your location is shared only while you have the map open, and it disappears within minutes of leaving it.
- Other users never see your exact position. Locations are blurred to roughly a city block before anyone else can see them.
- You can turn off map sharing entirely in Settings → Location, at any time. The map still works in view-only mode.
Messages
Messages are delivered through our messaging provider and are visible to the people in the conversation. To protect against scams and harassment, message text is automatically screened and contact information may be redacted. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted; our moderation systems (and staff, when handling a report) may review message content.
How we use information
- To run the marketplace: showing nearby content, processing transactions, delivering messages and notifications.
- To keep the community safe: moderation, fraud prevention, enforcing our Community Guidelines, and responding to reports.
- To improve the product and fix problems.
- To comply with legal obligations, including tax and financial-record rules.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising.
Who we share information with
We use service providers to run Neighbr, and they process data only on our behalf:
- Stripe: payment processing, seller payouts, and identity verification (if you choose to verify your ID). Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the information you give Stripe directly.
- Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage.
- Stream: message delivery.
- Google Firebase / Apple: push notification delivery.
- Render: application hosting.
Other users see what you'd expect: your display name, photo, profile, public content, approximate distances, and, for events you're interested in, your name on the guest list. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: Settings → Delete Account removes your profile and personal content permanently. Records of completed transactions are retained without your identifying details where the law requires (for example, financial recordkeeping).
- Location: control the app's location access in iOS Settings, and Neighbors-map sharing in the app's Settings.
- Notifications: control which pushes you receive in Settings.
- Blocking: block any user from their profile; blocked users can't message you and their content is hidden.
- California residents: you have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Contact us at the address below.
Data retention
We keep personal information while your account is active. When you delete your account, personal content is removed promptly; anonymized transaction and moderation records are retained as required for legal, financial, and safety purposes.
Age requirement
Neighbr is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you in the app before they take effect.
